Fast forward through time to the moment after he has actually closed the hive. We don't see him, but he's still there... crouched behind the hive for just a moment, getting the crude concrete rock that keeps the lid definitely on those bees. When he is done, Jacob walks back towards the house. The bees are trapped. Jacob will be free.
